SECOND JOURNAL

Second journal

In this session I was supposed to finish the lesson plan, but it was impossible because of, that day we were celebrating our Institutional English day, so, I had to organize some things that were part of the program, and the class finished 20 minutes before the normal hour.
In this session I presented the vocabulary, they were going to need for the story video they were going to watch the next session and for the comic they had to do.
They identified most of the images shown in the flash cards and told the corresponding word, but in Spanish the first time I presented the vocabulary and they were very interested in the images and their meaning.
The second time I presented the vocabulary, they were able to say some words in English when I presented the images.
After the second presentation, I gave them a worksheet consistent in writing the right word in front of the definition.
They started the activity and when they had doubts I explained them or also suggested they fill first the words they could identify clearly. In the middle of this activity in which each student had to fill his /her own char but working in pairs, the bell rang and we had to finish and to attend the English day celebration activity.
So, the worksheet was assigned as homeworkfor the next class.
Thinking about the difficulty of I had not finished the interventions, I had to decide to ask to other colleagues fi they could give me some hours of their time to complete the lesson with my students. Then, I had classes again on 21th september 2015.
In the session the first activity was remembering the vocabulary learned the previous class to elicit  memorization and to promote a better understanding of the video “Ramón sticks up for himself”.
After having presented the video, that unfortunately was not attractive for the students, some of them expressed that the video was so infantile and they got bored, and started to misbehave. I understood their position, but, I had to explain them, that a different video probably could be more difficult to understand because of the complexity of the vocabulary and probably I would have  to develop a previous lesson presenting the vocabulary necessary for the video understanding.
When I explained that, they realized about the difficulty and understood. Then they continued working  judiciously paying attention to the video and the reading  about Ramon.
After that, I gave them the worksheet in which they had to express their opinions about the video and also express their own feeling about their situation inside the class.
It seemed that it was hard to understand because they didn’t answer it totally, so I had to avoid it as a student artifact.
Finally, I gave them the worksheet and I explained them the activity consistent in the elaboration of a comic strip with two scenes for the problem, and two scenes for the solution.
At that moment, they started to work enthusiastic  and dedicated. They were really engaged in this activity.
During this, some of them asked me how to write the dialogues and I asked them what exactly they wanted to say to try to write the exact or correct idea in English.
Also I facilitated to them the access to colors in order to color the comic.
Some of them decided to do that in Spanish.

I noticed that they enjoyed this final activity a lot.
